but at the least _backend_tk.py needs to handle this gracefully, and ideally emit a nice warning and maybe even some reference to this issue or some FAQ summary of this issue.

Proposed solution

While not an issue within our responsibility, users of uv run into this. We should catch that exception and instead issue a more helpful one.
