If you’re using the Opera Neon browser, read this FAQ instead.
Opera AI is a browser-based AI built on Opera’s AI engine and powered by several large language models (LLMs), such as OpenAI’s or Google’s generative transformer models. It uses these models to understand a user’s question, process it, and respond in natural language. It helps users by providing information, reworking text-based content, generating ideas, creating images, and assisting with a variety of tasks.
Opera AI supports and enhances your online experience. Among other things, you can use Opera AI to:
- Interact with, extract information from, or summarize or shorten web pages.
- Find information on the web by asking questions in simple, everyday language. Opera AI compiles information from multiple online sources to provide answers.
- Assist with writing various types of text, such as emails, tweets, or social media posts, in any style you specify (e.g., formal, informal, humorous).
- Help with planning vacation, finding hotels or interesting places to see.
- Generate ideas, find synonyms and analogies, or refine your own concepts.
- Generate images using text prompts.
- Understand and respond to questions about uploaded images.
- Get cooking & recipe information, including links and suggestions.
- Get product information and online shopping suggestions.
- Summarize the article on this webpage.
- Compare the most popular travel destinations.
- What steps are required in planning a trip to Sweden?
- Show me a fast and easy pizza recipe.
- What can I cook with 100g of spaghetti and two potatoes?
- How much is six feet in meters?
- What’s the weather in New York right now?

- Plan a fun workout routine for a lazy person.
- Generate an image of a cat wearing sunglasses.
- What’s in this picture? (upload an image)

Page content access allows you to ask Opera AI about the content of the webpage you're currently on. If you’re using a Tab Island with many open tabs, you can ask Opera AI about all of them. This is useful when, for example, you want to compare products across multiple tabs within a Tab Island.
Access to the page content is enabled automatically when you start a new chat with AI while visiting a website. AI will receive information about the website content only if you write anything to the AI with page content enabled.
To disable access to page content, toggle off the option at the top of your Opera AI chat. You need to do this prior to beginning a chat.
AI with page content can help you summarize webpages, extract specific information, and translate foreign languages, find more information or compare products, for example.
For security purposes, page content is not available to AI on every website. Access is blocked to certain sensitive websites such as some banks, payment providers, and other sites that handle personal data.
Yes, they are saved in your regular Opera AI chat history.
When page content access is enabled, the data is processed like any other input in Opera AI. Therefore, we recommend not using it with banking, payment providers, medical platforms, or other websites with private or financial information.
No, Opera AI is not available in a private window in Opera browsers.
No, it is not used to train AI models.
You can use AI prompts (Explore More, Translate, etc.) by right-clicking highlighted text on a website.
Opera AI can generate images using text prompts. You can use this feature for various purposes, such as creating social media content, prototyping ideas, or simply for fun. To use it, simply describe the image you want in the Opera AI chat, and the AI will generate it for you.
The number of images you can generate each day is generous and flexible, but may be subject to fair-use limits to ensure a smooth experience for all users. For higher limits, sign into your free Opera Account. If you still need a higher limit, we recommend installing the Opera Neon browser, where one of the subscription plans includes unlimited image generation.

Uploaded files are automatically deleted after 30 days.
Your files are sent along with your prompts to the AI models, where they are anonymized and forgotten by the models after use.
No, none of your data is used to train AI models.
You can have Opera AI read its responses out loud by clicking on the speaker icon in the chat.

As this field of technology is still in development, all applications of artificial intelligence have limitations. Most notably:
- Opera AI might generate content based on biased training data in the LLMs that are used.
- Opera AI may generate false, misleading, and inaccurate information, since it does not have the ability to fact-check.
- Opera AI does not have access to your browser’s data beyond what you submit through the input field, or what is in your open tab or Tab Island when page content is enabled.
It's important to note that, while Opera AI aims to be as accurate as possible, it still has limitations, such as social biases and hallucinations. When using Opera AI, please keep in mind that it is not a fact-checker. The responses provided are based on existing publicly available sources which could be false or biased. Because of this, it is recommended that you double-check the information provided by Opera AI with other sources before using or quoting it.
The information provided by Opera AI is based on data that's currently available on the web, and the large quantity of publicly available sources that the AI model was trained on.
AI answers are not always accurate or reliable. Artificial Intelligence might sometimes hallucinate and generate unjustified responses.
To achieve better results when using AI language models:
- Be specific: To increase the chance of generating relevant and helpful responses, it is important to provide detailed questions or prompts. Avoid using vague or open-ended prompts that may lead to ambiguous or irrelevant responses.
- Use proper grammar and spelling: Opera AI is more likely to generate accurate responses when you use proper grammar. Avoid using slang, abbreviations, or regional language.
- Provide context: Providing context for your questions or prompts can help the AI better understand what you're asking and generate more accurate responses. If you're seeking advice on a particular topic, give some background information about the situation.
- Correct mistakes: If Opera AI generates a response that contains errors or inaccuracies, you can correct it by providing feedback. This will help the model improve the answer provided.
An AI hallucination is a phenomenon in which an artificial intelligence generates responses that are not accurate or aligned with reality, or contrary to what a user asked for. This anomaly can occur as a result of limitations or biases that are present in the AI’s training data, or due to the complexity of AI technology itself.
Yes, you need to be at least 18 years old to use Opera AI.

Opera AI can only access the information that you provide in the ongoing chat or that you make available through page context access. Neither the browser nor other web services can access any data that you provide to Opera AI.
