Welcome to the Global Flourishing Study newsletter from the Center for Open Science!
The Global Flourishing Study (GFS) is a five-year longitudinal data collection and research collaboration between researchers at Baylor University and Harvard University, in partnership with Gallup and the Center for Open Science (COS).
As data stewards, COS is making the data from the study an open access resource so researchers, journalists, policymakers, and educators worldwide can access detailed information about what makes for a flourishing life. We will be providing periodic updates when we have news to share about the data and tools for researchers to access the Global Flourishing data. In this issue, learn about the sample data, how to access the data, and view two recorded webinars.

The sample data for Sweden is available now to help researchers prepare their Wave 1 preregistrations and Registered Reports. There are two options to access:
With Preregistration
The sample dataset contains the data collected in Sweden which has been perturbed by adding a small amount of random error. Read more here. Access to this sample dataset requires preregistration in advance through the GFS Registry.
Without Preregistration
It has been perturbed by adding a small amount of random error and randomized across rows. Read more here. You can use it to prepare your hypotheses, models, and analysis script. Fill out this form to access the sample data without preregistration.
Gallup is wrapping up data collection for wave 1 in the field. We anticipate data being available in the first quarter of 2024 and will let you know when we have a specific date to release the data. Read our FAQs for more information about the data and its development.

Join Zacc Ritter (Gallup), Theresa Stankov (COS), and Lesley Markham (COS) for a webinar on the wave 1 global flourishing data. Following a brief introduction to the study and ways to access the data, we will cover topics such as survey development, validated measures, and methodology, codebook, and file types. There will be plenty of time for Q&A about the data.

Global Flourishing Study Randomized Trial: Examining the Impact of Registered Reports and Preregistration
Dec. 6, 2023 at 9:00 am ET
Are you open to either preregistration or Registered Reports to gain early access to the GFS data? Do you want to contribute to a better understanding of how these two approaches comparatively impact the publication process and research outcomes? Consider joining the National Science Foundation-funded COS randomized trial! Join us on Dec. 6 at 9 am ET to learn more about the randomized trial and how you can participate.
