Holiday park expansion approved despite objections

More than 300 letters of objection were lodged against the plans

Plans to install new caravans at a holiday park have been approved despite more than 300 objections from residents and visitors.
Primrose Valley in Filey has been given permission to add 11 new static caravans and partially remove a children's play area.
People objecting to the proposals said the development would lead to antisocial behaviour and "would result in a proliferation of seagulls".
However, the scheme proposed by operator Haven Leisure was approved by North Yorkshire Council at a meeting on 4 December.
The application initially proposed to add 29 new caravans to the site, but the number was later reduced.
It included plans for new access roads, parking areas and landscaping at the site.
But 345 objections to the proposals were registered with the council, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
Yorkshire Water opposed the scheme despite changes to the plan, stating that Haven Leisure had "failed to provide any new information regarding the on-site water main to address the concerns originally raised in July 2024".
Holidaymakers and residents said they feared the expansion would lead to a loss of privacy, reduced security and worse traffic.
One person wrote it could increase the amount of litter at the site and, as a result, attract more seagulls.
'Scale is appropriate'
However, council officers said it was "crucial to note that this is private land internal to a commercial holiday park".
Addressing Yorkshire Water's objections, they said it was "essentially a civil matter".
They said: "Should the applicant be unable to satisfy the technical requirements to build near the water main, the risk regarding the implementation of the scheme rests entirely with the developer."
Officers concluded that the proposal represented "an investment in an existing tourism business, upgrading the accommodation offer" and that the reduction in numbers to 11 units "ensures the scale is appropriate to the location".
