Bristol Rovers manager Steve Evans has said how psychologically important a home win would be against Newport County on Saturday.

Rovers, 22nd in League Two, host County a point and a place behind them.

Evans' side have not won at home in the league since the end of September.

"We know the buzz and the feelgood factor it will bring to everyone if we win the game," he told BBC Radio Bristol.

"It would be very important psychologically to win a home game.

"We're waiting for that moment when we can go to our supporters and know everyone's on the same page and aligned and happy."

Evans was appointed in December and has seen his side win just one and draw another of his seven games in charge.

Stanway deal off

Rovers have lost their past three games 1-0, including Tuesday's defeat at MK Dons.

"We know what a challenge this is," said Evans. "We knew the team was not in a good enough place. We've changed some of that but we still have a way to go.

"We've always said we've got a number of good players in the building and if we can add to that group it would really help us. We've got three players close to joining, but they're never close until it's done."

One deal not happening is a move for Barrow goalkeeper Wyll Stanway.

"We've walked away from that at my choice," said Evans. "Wyll is a fine young goalkeeper and has made remarkable progress.

"But we're also looking at the form of Brad Young and he could perhaps go further in time. We're still looking but we've walked away from Stanway."
