When using multiplexed sessions, the transaction_tag should also be set on the BeginTransactionRequest.

Summary of Changes

Hello @surbhigarg92, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!

This pull request resolves an issue where the transaction_tag was not being included in BeginTransactionRequest when utilizing multiplexed sessions. By modifying the _begin_transaction method and its callers, the transaction_tag is now properly propagated, ensuring correct transaction management and tracing for multiplexed sessions.

Highlights

  • BeginTransactionRequest Update: The _begin_transaction method in google/cloud/spanner_v1/snapshot.py now accepts an optional transaction_tag parameter.
  • Transaction Tag Propagation: The transaction_tag is now correctly propagated within a RequestOptions object to the BeginTransactionRequest in google/cloud/spanner_v1/snapshot.py.
  • Transaction Class Integration: The Transaction class in google/cloud/spanner_v1/transaction.py now forwards its transaction_tag to the underlying _begin_transaction call.
  • Test Coverage: Unit tests in tests/unit/test_transaction.py have been updated to verify the correct handling of transaction_tag in BeginTransactionRequest.

Code Review

This pull request addresses a bug where the transaction_tag was not being set on BeginTransactionRequest, which is crucial for multiplexed sessions. The changes correctly introduce the transaction_tag parameter to the _begin_transaction method and ensure it's passed when creating the request. The fix is logical, and the accompanying test updates properly validate the new behavior. I've included a couple of minor suggestions to improve code conciseness.
