Time for us to say goodbye.

England have won their T20 series with Sri Lanka 2-0 with a six-wicket victory in Pallekele.

Take a read of Timothy Abraham's report to see how it all played out.

We'll be back on Tuesday for the final match in the series, that's another 13:30 GMT start.

    Have a good evening.

  2. 'I thought we played outstanding'published at 18:27 GMT 1 February

England captain Harry Brook: "I thought we played outstanding there, especially with the bat. To win the series is awesome."

"I think the more time we get out in the middle puts us into good shape for the World Cup. The way Banton played there was great."

"The spinners have been awesome, that's why we decided to pick two frontline spinners, to help restrict those runs in the middle. We had a really good game tonight. We pick so many batters and all rounders. Will Jacks is an opening batter who's played on the world stage and he didn't get out. There's plenty of baters in there. We just go out there and chase."

  3. 'We did a lot of things right'published at 18:24 GMT 1 February

Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka: "We did a lot of things right. It's not the rain, but the fact that Eshan Malinga got injured played a part. Normally he's a very good death bowler but we lost him so there's a reason [for the loss].

"Every batter got starts so happy about the way they played and accelerated. There were a few overs where we couldn't capitalise but Adil Rashid bowled well.

"We know that because we've played on spin tracks the past two years. It's the home advantage so no doubt about it we need to use that."

  4. 'I just want to take my chance'published at 18:19 GMT 1 February

Player of the match Tom Banton: "I think most of my career I've been opening. I've had a new role with England. You've got to give yourself a chance to get out there and assess the wicket. They've got good spinners who keep it nice and straight. Sometimes you've just go to take an early risk and hope you get away with it."

"I just want to try and play all formats and hopefully take my chance when I get it. On wickets like this where there's a bit of hold and turn, it's essential to be able to sweep the ball. The Sri Lankan spinners keep it nice and straight so you've got to hit it. It's good to come out here and get the win."

Is Bethell’s place at risk? He hasn’t done enough in T20s and Duckett is a good player of spin.

Tom Banton unsurprisingly wins the player for the match award for his unbeaten 54 off 33 balls.

It was an excellent innings from a man who may not have played had Ben Duckett, who has injured his finger, been available.

I know we all talk about Duckett as a spin specialist (reverse sweeps etc) but Banton is equally adept and looks in great touch!

    Sam Brewster, Ascot

Brilliant innings by Banton, real maturity. If he doesn't get a birth in the World Cup side it'll be a travesty.

Or they can win it with a six!

Sam Curran sends Janith Liyanage high over the ropes at long-on to win the match for England.

They take the series 2-0 with one match to play, and extending their winning run over Sri Lanka in this format to 10 games.

Janith Liyanage, who probably didn't expect to bowl today, gets the final over.

His first ball is quite loopy and Sam Curran lets it go.

The second is punched out to long-on and Tom Banton's full-stretch dive at the non-striker's end secures England two more runs.

The third is another dot - England need one more single to win.

Since the start of last year, England have scored 12 or more runs off 32% of the overs they've faced in T20Is - only India (33%) can boast a higher rate. Seven of the 15 overs England have faced so far have gone for 12 or more today.

Singles off the first three balls of Matheesha Pathirana's over, with Tom Banton hurrying through a run and just beating a direct hit on the non-striker's stumps.

Banton then races through for another sharp two down to long-on - no boundaries off this over, but England can afford that after their earlier hitting.

They need just three runs to win.

Banton should be playing ahead of Duckett in the World Cup. Especially given the winter Duckett has had.

    A half-century for Tom Banton!

The England number four clubs Dasun Shanaka's penultimate delivery out through mid-wicket, beating a grasping fielder on the rope.

It's his third for England in this format and his first since scoring 73 against the West Indies at the Kensington Oval in January 2022.

The landmark came up off 29 balls - Banton can't score off his 30th as we come to the end of the over.

    Careful now.

Tom Banton comes charging down the pitch after Sam Curran parries Dasun Shanaka's delivery and is sent back by his partner.

Shanaka fires a throw at the non-striker's end and it flies past the stumps.

Banton was long gone if it hit - he'd given up trying to make it back.

Brook has done the hard work and foundations for what should be a straight forward run chase

    Simon Green, Newcastle

On the contrary. A text brook contribution from Brook that’s got us in the game. Well played Harry!

    Jon Wood, Kent

RE: Luke I’m fed up with the adjective brainless to describe Brook. It’s insulting. 36 runs at nearly 300 strike rate will be the only reason we get near the target.

A couple of wides from Wanindu Hasaranga either side of a turning delivery that Tom Banton semi-edges.

His shot beats the diving fielder at third, who gets a hand on the ball but can only parry it to the ropes for another four.

17 runs off the over, and 92 off 40 balls since the rain delay - England are big favourites now.

  17. Eng 141-4published at 13.3 overs

And England have their nine from the over from its first three balls.

Tom Banton sends Wanindu Hasaranga through the covers for four, then Sam Curran picks up his first boundary by sending the ball scudding across the mid-wicket outfield.

Absolutely no need for Harry Brook to play that shot. Another brainless dismissal that might cost us the game.

This is what Pathirana should've been doing before, this time there was an adjustment. Harry Brook expected it to be a bit fuller, he was going for a scoop. Great catch from Hasaranga and now Sri Lanka are back in the game.
