UEFA Europa League
All competitions
FC Porto and Malmö have never previously met in any European competition; Porto’s four games against Swedish sides in Europe were all against IFK Göteborg in the UEFA Champions League in 1992-93 (W1 L1) and 1996-97 (W2).
Malmö have lost their last five major European games against Portuguese teams, failing to score in four of those. Their last win came against Benfica in October 1980 in the Cup Winners’ Cup.
FC Porto have won seven of their last 10 home major European matches (D2 L1), with their only defeat coming against Olympiakos in January this year in a Europa League group game.
Malmö have had the fewest shots (37), the joint fewest shots on target (12) and have the lowest xG (3.12) in the UEFA Europa League this season. In their 3-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest on MD5, they became only the second side in Europa League history (2009-10 onwards) to not have a touch in the opponent’s box in a game, after Partizan Belgrade against Club Brugge in October 2009.
FC Porto’s Gabri Veiga scored the quickest UEFA Europa League goal (18 seconds) since September 2021 in their 3-0 win over Nice on MD5, while it was Porto’s first goal in the opening minute of a major European game since March 2011, Hulk against CSKA Moscow.
