An exhibition where sci-fi meets sea-life with digital sea creatures swimming in glowing waters and interacting with visitors is on show at a museum.

The Sound of the Sea exhibition at Poole Museum, in Poole, Dorset, uses body-tracking sensors so visitors can see their avatars on screen and interact with colourful, futuristic sea creatures that respond to movement.

Previously shown in Norway, the museum is the first to host the exhibition in the UK.

The museum said the experience, where people can dance and move with the sea creatures or simply float through the underwater world, is a "bold reimagining of maritime heritage through a contemporary lens" aimed to be a "feast for the senses".

Jaine Fitzpatrick, interim director of Poole Museum said: "We are delighted to open this stunning new gallery with such a bold and imaginative exhibition.

"Sound of the Sea is unlike anything we've shown before. It is immersive, interactive, and deeply aligned with Poole's natural underwater heritage."

Tickets to the exhibition in the museum's new Fine Gallery are free but need to be pre-booked.

The museum reopened to the public in November following a £10m redevelopment. It closed for the revamp and repairs in 2022.

The exhibition runs until Sunday 26 January.
